Université Laval becomes Québec’s first carbon-neutral university

After years of sustained collective effort, Université Laval has achieved carbon neutrality by massively reducing its greenhouse gas emissions at the source and using carbon credits to offset the rest. A leader in sustainable development, Université Laval is the first university in Québec to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to zero, and the first in Canada to do so in the absence of any legal imperative.

Olympus NDT Canada currently leases space in three locations in the Québec City area. Purchasing this land demonstrates Olympus’ commitment to the region and enables business and manufacturing operations to be consolidated in a single location.

ABB inaugurates a unique high-tech facility in Quebec City, a $20-million investment

ABB, a world leader in energy and automation technologies, celebrated the official inauguration of its new high-tech Measurement & Analytics facility in Quebec City. The new 85,000-square-foot facility is located in the Espace d'innovation Michelet, a next-generation technological park in Quebec City, and represents a $20-million investment. The building is LEED-certified, aligning with ABB's commitment to sustainable development. This project was executed in cooperation with Groupe Commercial AMT and Quebec City.

Medicago to build $245 M production facility in Quebec City

Medicago, a  major  Canadian  biotech  company and an  international leader  in  the development  and  production  of  plant-based  vaccines  and therapeutics,  is  proud  to announce that Quebec City will be home to its new production complex. The $245 million project will create 200 new high-skilled jobs by 2019, adding to the team of 180 employees already working at Medicago’s Quebec City office and  laboratories. The  project  is  expected  to  generate more  than $461 million in direct and indirect economic benefits over the next five years.

Dr. Gary Kobinger, Ebola scientist who led ZMapp development, to be director of Centre for Research in Infectious Diseases in Quebec City

The scientist who led the work to develop the Ebola drug ZMapp is going to be leaving the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg. Dr. Gary Kobinger is the lab's chief of special pathogens, heading a team that works on some of the world's worst disease threats. Kobinger will be vacating that position next June to become the director of the Centre for Research in Infectious Diseases at Laval University in Quebec City.

Monique F. Leroux elected President of the International Co-operative Alliance

Desjardins Group takes pride in Monique F. Leroux's appointment to the position of President of the lnternational Co-operative Alliance (ICA). Founded in 1895, the ICA has its headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, and its mission is to support and promote the development of the cooperative movement worldwide.

The election took place during the ICA's General Assembly in Antalya, Turkey. Desjardins Group's Chair of the Board, President and CEO was one of four candidates in the running. The other candidates represented Argentina, Brazil and France. Ms Leroux is the first Canadian and first North American to be appointed to this prestigious role, replacing Dame Pauline Green who had been at the helm of the ICA since 2009.
